a couple of words that can substitute the entire dictionary Ivan 'Vern' Poh from URL @ 1:34 AM why is there still the hip hop countdown? don't we all know that hip hop is on the decline and indie rock is the new hip hop? hahaha... i just watched 'wake me up when september ends' mtv, it's so nice, actually. anyway you're going to love this. let me show you a couple of words we use quite commonly in the army. 1 up - CHUI apparently we all know what CHUI means. Pronunciation - chee-uuiie it really means shattered or smashed into bits and pieces. but it's normally used to describe something substandard or crappy. for example - the food was bad = the food chui 2 up - LOONG this is upright hokkien. Pronunciation - low-ong it means crash, used in the context of cars. but in the army, we usually use it to describe risk taking and the leap of faith. for example - let's try our luck and ask for an off day from sir = we go loong off day leh 3rd up - SNOOK this is english in core definitely. Pronunciation as it is spelt. Snooker, Snook. yes... it means conned, surprised, shocked, out of the blue, jump the gun, unexpected. a second meaning could be, embarrassed, placed in the spot, stood dumbfounded. for example - he was supposed to meet me, 5 minutes before meeting time he told me he wasn't going to turn up, i was just so stunned = supposed to meet him today, he suddenly told me 5 mins before he not coming, i tio snook, stand there don't know what to do. 4th and last up - BUANG this is hmmm, hokkien or malay? Pronunciation - Bu-ah-wang. Go very fast, emphasize on the wANG. Buang actually means, throw away. it also means lost it, crashed (how a meeting crashed). for example - my car skidded and crashed - my car buang man. you've got to understand, they talk a lot about cars and bikes in camp. yeah, so that's 4 words you'll know when you enlist. everyone uses it, even the officers. it's the men in green way of expressing ourselves. when the adrenaline pumps, we go, "CHUI LA".... "GO LOONG OFF LEH"...."SIAN TIO SNOOK"...."HAIZ MY BIKE BUANG, LUCKY I SAVED MYSELF" hahaha, a typical day in army, you hear all 4 words. i've got a friend, he substitutes every and any vocab for these 4 words. it's quite funny. well he ORD-ed. we may have lesser of this, but we seem like infected bugs now. WELCOME TO OUR LIVES CIVILIANS (: gdnight and gdbye... "if i don't sleep, tomorrow sure chui, sir later ask me why i like sian sian, then sure kanna snook... then sian already cannot loong off day... all my favor with man buang..." hahahaha, don't let this 4 words enter your vocabulary. NEVER WAIT, i'm going to edit my post - the moral of this post, communication breakdown. half the ppl cannot communicate in camp. some stranger out there, if you are reading this and happen to have a bf in army, please be prepared, you should break up soon. hahahaha. men in green cannot communicate. imagine, in time of war - "let's loong the enemy!!!! chiong ah" i'll put down my gun and surrender in laughter. "SIR, YOUR COMMAND... SUPER CHUI EH!" "OI, YOU DARE SNOOK ME IN FRONT OF EVERYONE?" "SORRY SIR, LET'S GO LOONG THE ENEMY NOW..." haiz, i hate the army
